Friday's Favorites: Kitchen Window

You may have heard me say that I have a really small kitchen, which means I also have a really small kitchen window. Like the buffet I've written about before, I have a tradition of what I put in any of my kitchen windows, the same thing every time: the stain glass flower that my sister-in-law, Sandy, made for me; a yellow flower pot that we inherited with the house we bought in 1974 with an ancestor of the ivy that was in it at that time, my bluebird sun catchers, old bottles that we've collected over the years, and seed packages.

Although the window is small, it looks out onto a large yard, only just coming into it's fourth summer of being somewhat landscaped. There were no trees or bushes when we moved here in Dec. 2005. On the horizon is the green area I've talked about before (the hundred year flood zone), where just today I watched a heron glide in and make a graceful landing, and where I look toward the awesome sunsets that we get all year round.

The photo above was taken when the rose of sharon was in it's first year of blooming, and the dogwood tree was also only two or three years old. The hummingbird feeder is hanging off the side of the deck and usually covered with and surrounded by hummingbirds, so we get to see them up close and personal as it's only three feet from the window.

This is about 7am on a foggy morning, with the moon still up in the sky. The crepe myrtles are so heavy with blooms and dew that they were dragging the ground.
So although the window is small, it looks out onto many wonders of nature. I can hardly wait until this coming spring and summer, when the bushes and trees will be reaching their maturity, and the cherry tree next to the deck will be tall enough so that we will be eye to eye any birds that nest there up. Only a few more months!

Linda your kitchen window doesn't look that small to me, and I love the old bottles you have on the sill......your yard looks lovely, being in a condo I do miss a yard, not mowing it though....have a great weekend my friend...:-) Hugs

I love the foggy morning picture. It looks like a painting. Nice that you have always had the same things in your kitchen window.

I love your kitchen window, so cozy and warm looking. And that foggy scene is beautiful, so surreal with the moon peeking through the fog.

Your foggy scene reminds me of a Thomas Kincade painting - rather ethereal, poetic, almost too lovely to be real.

My kitchen window sill is filled with old bottles, too! And usually tomatoes rippening on the tops of several of those bottles, maybe sprigs of ivy or wildflowers in a bottle or two; happy windows!

I've got a picture of one of your kitchen windows of past (close to 20 years ago) and it does look almost exactly the same.

And I didn't know that my mom had made that stained glass flower.

Love the picture of the fog.

I like the view from your kitchen window. I also like all the neat things you have on the window ledge.
I have a kitchen window but not much of a view since we built a new garage up close to it.
The crepe myrtles are really pretty.

You do have such a wonderful view! And even though that view has changed with different houses, I think the knick knacks populating the forefront of your frame have maintained that constant "home" feeling. Alas, my kitchen window looks out onto my driveway and I try to keep it relatively clear, because my house gets dusty so quickly!

I love that foggy morning shot. And i do know how we can get a little carried away at times by adding more and more stuff to one space.. till it all gets a little crowded. But, shrug, if it makes you smile when your eye catches it, then i'll say- they should stay!

How beautiful. Both the view from your window - and the lovely choices you've made to frame it on the inside. What a great idea to show us a view of your life - everyday. Many times a day, I'm sure.

We have more in common than usual. I like to collect old bottles, too. Milk of magnesia bottles, odd shapes, different. What a sight to see the crepe myrtles dragging on the ground. I so miss the lilacs of the north, but the crepe myrtles that bloom in the spring/summer and most beautiful in their own right. Or is that rite?

The Bradford Pears just bloomed here the other day - going so quickly. Please take photos of your cherry tree. Sorry I'm so late with my response. Baseball!
