A Blogger Gone ...

UPDATE: Ah, the power of persuasion! Due to an overwhelming uprising amongst his followers, Glenn has agreed to keep his blog active. He felt that he could not devote enough time or effort to the blog because of real life conditions, but we have convinced him that, since there are no rules as to when or how often he has to post, he can come and go as he pleases. I, for one, look forward to his continued blogging participation. (I just wish he hadn't deleted his old stories!)

I dropped in to see Glenn at Differences with the Same Likenesses this morning, and was disappointed and dismayed to find that he has signed off and taken his posts with him. I know this happens, but it is my first experience with it. I knew that he had been questioning why he had started a blog in the first place, though it was obvious to those of us who visited him that he had some wonderful 'stories' to share, and all of his posts were a pleasure to read. I don't know if he felt pressured to have to submit something, if he was disappointed with his writings, if there were time constraints, or what.

And that's the problem, or the frustration ... that we don't know WHY. I wish he had talked this through with us, his readers, a little more, to at least prepare us for his imminent departure. Not that he owed us anything, but it's kind of like having a friend, co-worker, or next door neighbor pack up in the middle of the night and not leave a forwarding address.

Anyway, I, for one, will miss reading his stories, but wish him well ... and will hope that someday he changes his mind and comes back.

I know what you mean,I will miss him so much. I guess it would be asking too much to hope this is a joke, but I'm hoping just the same.

I think that many people leave the blog and come back later. It gets tough to keep up with at times, but I do agree, it would be nice to receive notice. Almost makes you feel like "did I offend him?"

I'm sure he's off living life, having fun in Real Time, real life...at least I hope so :D

There seems to be a certain pace, then a burnout, then a rejuvenation in most blogs after a year or more. People have lives that interfere with blogging.

For some, blogging seems to be in the blood--and for us, the challenge of coming up with material is not so much a chore, as a continuing call to find inspiration in one's life. But surely not everyone is like that, and there may be many personal reasons why someone throws in the towel. You don't play this game in short pants, as the saying goes, though the beauty of it is no one knows WHAT you're wearing!

Blogging is the modern day equivalent of having pen pals all over the world, and yes, one should give an explanation as to why he can no longer write...

Sad to lose someone like that. We find out so much about one another, it is difficult to not find them there. Note to self: Seems like plodding out a middle ground is best for longevity in the blog world.

I did not know your blogger friend but I am sure you would feel sad that he is no longer there. I know I would be if any of my village people left without saying anything first. Perhaps he will be back after a break......:-) Hugs

That is strange for someone to just disappear like that without explanation. Maybe he just felt overwhelmed and felt uncomfortable talking to anyone about it. Any way that you look at it, it's sad for the people who are left behind, wondering what happened. :(

I've had that happen a few times also. One blogger even went private...and when you go to visit it says something like "sorry you aren't on the invited list to read this blog". Wow that feels like a slap in the face.
I don't post as much as I would like, and I've thought of just closing my blog, but then I thought there might be something I want to write about sometime, so why not just leave it open and post whenever I feel like it?
It is like losing a friend when they shut down and don't explain it and you wonder what happened to them.

HI! I was so happy today to see him post anything. I am worried about the old stories and have convinced myself he backed them up somewhere. Didn't you glen? Puhleease tell me you backed those babies up!

Maybe there is a self-imposed pressure as to how often one should post. Maybe it's okay to give ourselves permission to blog less frequently, to write when the inspiration strikes, and not to worry about the frequency.

Dropping by the blog to leave a note for dear readers is a great idea, to keep them from worrying.

I left a reply for you back at the spa :)

There are a lot of bloggy friends who come and go. But there are a lot in face-to-face life as well. I pretty much just go with the flow.
