To Dance With My Father Again

This is just a short, spur of the moment post, but I just want to say that I heard this song twice this week, for the first time in a long time, and both times I cried. Have you ever really listened to the words, and most especially to the emotion behind the lyrics? I did, and was so deeply touched. And that voice! Luther, your talent will be missed.

I don't know this song, but Noel caught me the past two Christmases (sp?) and I find myself in tears over the melody and the tone of voice and the words (not in a religious way, but this song has huge meaning for me)! Songs - my dad and I were fighting the summer I turned 16 (really?, not us!) and he gave me a birthday card that quoted a song something about -Daddy's hands strong and harsh when needed, but gentle and kind when needed too - I don't know all the words, but everytime I come across that card, it still makes me cry.

I'll see if I can figure out how to put one of those player thingies here, though I'm sure you could download it faster. By Luther Vandross. You will surely sob since you and your dad have a close relationship, as do your parents! Music can hit so many different cords in us for whatever reason, tune or lyrics or whatever, depending on the life experience that we're drawing from. I'm goofy emotional with Sugarland's "Stay", and with Vince Gill's and Gladys Knight's versions of "Let There Be Peace". And Brooks and Dunn's "I Believe". Wynona's "Flies on the Buttermilk/You Can't Go Home Again". Anything by George Jones, especially songs like "Our Bed of Roses". Merle Haggard's "Place to Fall Apart". "Nessun dorma" by anyone. And probably a dozen other songs!
